Civic-Minded Volunteers Sought for Advisory Board

Louisburg, N.C. – The Franklin County Board of Commissioners is seeking interested community volunteers to fill multiple vacancies and upcoming term openings across nine crucial local boards and commissions.

Franklin County residents have until November 1, 2026, to submit their applications. This initiative offers a direct pathway for residents to impact public policy, county infrastructure, economic growth, and regional community wellness.

"Serving on a local advisory board is one of the most effective ways for residents to actively participate in the governance of our community,” said Franklin County Board of Commissioners Chair Roxanne Bragg. “These volunteers provide invaluable insights that help guide the Board of Commissioners in making well-informed decisions for the future of Franklin County."

Volunteers are currently being sought for the following bodies:

  • Animal Services Advisory Board: Focuses on promoting responsible animal ownership. (1 current vacancy, 3 terms ending soon).
  • Board of Adjustment: Reviews zoning variances and administrative appeals. (2 terms expired, 3 terms ending soon).
  • Board of Health: Helps establish vital local public health policies. (2 current vacancies, including a physician position).
  • Department of Aging Advisory Board: Serves as a liaison to support the needs of older adults. (1 vacancy, 2 terms expired, 3 terms ending soon).
  • Library Board: Engages in strategic planning and advocacy for public libraries. (2 vacancies, 2 terms expired, 2 terms ending soon).
  • Parks & Recreation Advisory Board: Advises on county parks, facilities, and recreational programs. (2 vacancies, 2 terms expired, 2 terms ending soon).
  • Planning Board: Serves an advisory role for rezonings, amendments, and growth policies. (1 term expired, 2 terms ending soon).
  • Tourism Development Authority: Promotes county tourism to strengthen the local economic base. (3 terms ending soon; seeking hospitality and occupancy tax-collecting business affiliates).
  • Triangle North Executive Airport Advisory Board: Makes recommendations regarding strategic planning and airport operations. (1 term expired, 3 terms ending soon).
